Things To Do
New Hampshire is home to 54 covered bridges. The Pemi Valley is home to several of these architectural points of interest, including several wooden covered bridges. Off I-93, take Exit 27 toward US-3. This 292′ 10″ two span bridge crosses the Pemigewasset River and was built in 1869.
Off I-93, take Exit 28 toward Route 49 East. Turn right at traffic lights and go over Campton Dam. Follow Route 175 South. After about 4 miles, you will come to a sharp left turn (almost 90 degrees). Bear to the left on Perch Pond Rd. and continue straight. Take first right, staying on Perch Pond Rd. The bridge is about 1/2 mile on your left. Originally built in 1877, this 68′ 4″ bridge spans the Beebe River.
East of US Route 3 in Lincoln, NH over the Pemigewasset River at the junction of NH Route 175 and US Route 3. Constructed in 1871, this bridge is 50′ in length with a clear span of 41′ 4″. There is a hikers’ walkway attached to the north side.
Jack O’ Lantern
Off I-93, take Exit 30 toward Route 3. Turn right towards Jack O’Lantern Golf Resort. This 76′ span was built over a pond in 1987.
East of U.S. Route 3 over the Flume Gorge at the pool in Lincoln, NH. Constructed in 1939, the bridge is 60’5″ long with a clear span of 50’0″. The bridge is restricted to pedestrian traffic only.
Smith Millenium Bridge
Off I-93, take Exit 26 toward Tenney Mountain Highway/Route 25. Smith Bridge Rd. will be on your right over the Baker River in Plymouth, NH. Reconstructed in 2001 after being destroyed by fire, the Smith Bridge is the world’s strongest covered bridge!
Off I-93, take the Route-25 S exit, Exit 24 towards Ashland/Holderness/Squam Lakes. Turn slight left onto US Route-3/Riverside Drive/Route-25. Turn right on to River Street. The bridge is 61’0″ long with a clear span of 25’9″. It has an overall width of 23’6″ with a roadway width of 14’0″ and a maximum vertical clearance of 14’1″. There is a sidewalk on the Little Squam side of the bridge.
